Prof Iris-Katharina Penner

Prof Iris-Katharina Penner is a cognitive psychologist and neuroscientist who is actually working as Associate Professor at the University of Basel.

She studied at the Universities of Bonn and Berlin and received her Diploma in Psychology in 1996 at the Free University Berlin. In 1999 she moved to the University Hospital in Basel where she started her research in the Department of Neuroradiology. She received her PhD in 2003 for her thesis on “Analysis of attention processes in multiple sclerosis patients using functional MRI”. From 2003 until 2009 she worked as a senior assistant at the Department of Cognitive Psychology and Methodology and got her degree as Associate Professor in March 2009. She is actually working at the Departments of Cognitive Psychology and Neurology and at the Neuropediatric Policlinic at the University and University Hospitals Basel.

Scientifically she is interested in cognition and brain plasticity in neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases, in brain imaging as well as in cognitive intervention and prevention in the healthy and injured brain. She recently developed a new fatigue scale and a computerised cognitive rehabilitation program (BrainStim).
